Fuji X-T1 Review :: Yep. It’s A Fuji | Zack Arias

I have now had the Fuji X-T1 since February of this year. I have traveled to Dubai, Morocco, Cuba, and numerous places through the US with the XT and the new 10-24mm f4, 56mm 1.2, and 27mm 2.8 pancake lenses. I’ve shot street, portraits, personal work, and paid work with this camera and these lenses. Fuji sent the camera and lenses to me and then I picked up a second body because these are now my small camera work horses. I no longer own a single piece of DSLR gear. I shoot my PhaseOne on some jobs and I shoot Fuji’s for the rest. I do not foresee going back to DSLR’s any time soon. What can I say about Fuji cameras that I haven’t said before? They have soul. They are sharp. They are a joy to work with. They are conversation starters on set. They are small. They are quiet. They are a constant companion. I never said any thing like this about my Nikon or Canon gear. Not even my Phase One. The only reason I love my Phase is because of the image quality it produces. Otherwise, the Phase One camera body is a piece of crap and I hate it. It’s an old Mamiya 645 body with a few tweaks and a new badge slapped on the front. It’s a crap camera really. Oh how I hope and wish and pray and desire for the day Fuji gets back in the medium format game. I have begged and pleaded with them to make an X series medium format game changer. PLEASE!!! …….

Zack, I to owned an X-T1. I said owned as in past tense & everything you said about the camera is true, but the things you didn’t say about the camera are also true. I feel it is one or two generations away from being a camera a working professionals can embrace, wether Fuji go’s full frame or not. What is not up to pro quality is the flash system & the auto focus system. To many shots are missed focused in marginal light & the lack of a really good flash with a high sync speed is a must for professional applications. Electronic viewfinders are O.K. at best, the Fuji being one of the best, but can be very bothersome in bright contrasty light & I do realize that they are much better in low light. If you shoot in cold weather, forget about using gloves, everything is to small to push. I will say the files are wonderful as are their lenses, but if you want a good comparison to how far they still have to go, just compare it to a Nikon D7100 & what that camera can do for less money. It’s the lenses that really make DSLR’s big & heavy.That is my walk around camera as I use D810’s as my workhorse cameras. Everything else about the Fuji is as you said & if you are not a dedicated action photographer, don’t use flash very much & work mostly in good light & want to be able to carry a small system in one shoulder bag, the Fuji is the way to go & I will probably look to purchase it again if they can address some of it’s short comings.
