REVIEW – LEICA M TYPE 240 | Pebble Place

In mid June Sean Cranor at Camera West (the Rancho Mirage Leica Boutique) called to say my Leica M was on its way. Leica M’s are about as rare as hens teeth these days, so without a second thought, the camera was purchased and overnighted. The next day the M240 arrived and within snapping the first 20 shots, it is obvious the M240 is what the Leica M9 should have been. The M240‘s general operation felt quicker, smoother and more polished than the Leica M9. Some of those improvements over the M9 include:

  • High resolution 3” rear LCD with 921,000 dot resolution

  • LED illuminated framelines

  • New 24 MP CMOS sensor

  • Improved dynamic range

  • Cleaner files at base ISO

  • Improved high ISO

  • 24 MP vs 18 MP (larger net file after cropping)

  • Smoother, quieter shutter

  • Live View

  • EVF capability

  • Improved rangefinder focusing

  • Improved battery life

  • Improved SDHC card performance

  • 2 year warranty
