A Thousand Words | Steven Dempsey

I had just finished shooting the sunrise at Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park when Linda and I spotted this wonderful light creating multiple tonal layers in the canyon. The warm colors of the morning light and the quietness of the moment made it exceptional. The long road towards the bottom of the image gives a good idea of the scale of the scene. This was our view at a campsite in Ogden, Utah. The weather and light were constantly changing during our stay. Each time I looked out the window, the mountains had taken on a different personality. This photograph was made during the last few minutes of sunset. The diffused light illuminated only a small section of the mountain, emphasizing its craggy textures…….
