Going Long With Fuji | Fuji Shooter

Needing to clear my head and do rather than think about, read about, talk about, I set out to make some long exposure images of the sunset. Inspired by Stephen Ip’s work in La Jolla with the 14mm, and itching to just create something, I stalked the sky for several weeks and when the time seemed like it might be right I headed down to Laguna Beach. Laguna is a beautiful area, not your typical Southern California beach its peppered with rock formations and a very laid back beach lifestyle. None of the hustle and chaos of Huntington or the insane people watching of Venice, Laguna just seemed right for the shot I’d already made in my mind. I tossed the Fuji X-E2 and 14mm f2.8 in my bag with a Canon intervalometer, a couple step up rings and the B&W filters I had leftover from my old Canon L lenses. Even in the diminutive Mirrorless Mover 30i I had a lot more room available. I always get impatient waiting on long exposure shots so I figured between the X-Pro1 with XF 55-200 and X100s I’d be able to keep myself entertained while the X-E2 was chewing away making its long drawn out looks at what I hoped would be a magical sunset. I know myself pretty well and I am first and foremost a creature of habit so I made a conscious choice to leave my two favorite lenses at home. With a bit of hesitation and a deep sigh I placed my trusty 35mm and 60mm on my desk promising them I’d return but knowing that if they were with me the Fuji XF 55-200 would get no play time. I’m glad I did, because I would have missed some of my favorite shots of the day without that long awkward yet beautiful lens……
