Making a Small picture into a Big picture | Adobe Photoshop CC |
Leigh Miller

Here is a question I get asked a lot: How do I make a low resolution picture larger so that I can make a print? If he can do that, surely a well captured file from just about any camera will yield good results from upscaling providing you can accept some compromises in quality. Here I have a file from a 16 Megapixel Fujifilm X-T1 camera. The resulting RAW (RAF) file has a native dimension of 4896 x 3264, more than enough for quality prints at 20 x 30″ and with a careful workflow, even larger. The internet forums are abuzz with chatter about the lack of Megapixels the camera has when compared to say…a Canon EOS 5D MKIII. Most who wax-poetic about it probably do little to no printing over the 8X10 standard. They probably aren’t aware that many billboards in the near past were made with files from cameras in the 8 to 12MP range. Cameras like the venerable Canon EOS 5D Classic……..
