My Year With Mirrorless | Fuji Cameras | Leigh Miller

Mirrorless camera systems promised a smaller footprint, sufficient image quality and features not available on traditional DSLR’s. I researched on the internet, spoke to colleagues and compared platforms ending up with Fuji and Olympus. I chose these two because they had a complete system loop. Camera bodies, lenses and accessories to match, something that others in that space did not…and still don’t. They also have the virtue of frequent updates to their systems via firmware which took away the pressure of gear upgrading. Since then I’ve had very little to complain about and not once have I wished for a DSLR from the good old days. No clients have left me and none had any issues with images from either the Fuji or Olympus. A few months in, I was thoroughly convinced that we had reach the point of sufficiency at 16 Megapixels for all but the largest printing projects. Everything else was pure gravy…video, live-view, electronic view-finders etc. On top of the list is the XT-1. It has everything we X-Photographers asked for since late 2013. Faster auto-focusing, ergonomic body, wireless file transfer and weather resistance. The new graphite model brings with it a host of new features including expanded shutter speed, natural live view and tethering support. All to be added to the existing model via firmware. This is the pro body they needed to become a real player in the market and it’s only going to get better. This is a great example of an internal „open source“ type product to which new features can be added without forcing the user to buy a new camera body…….
