The Fuji XF 16-55 LM WR | Adam King

Today may be Friday the 13th, but it is also the first day after the US embargo on delivery of Fuji newest XF Zoom, the FUJINON XF 16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR. I had pre-ordered and arranged for overnight delivery. So I am one of the few with this thing already in hand.  I have a concert lined up for tonight that I’m shooting (G. Love and Special Sauce at the House of Blues Chicago), so the first samples will wait until the follow-up to this in the next couple days. What I can offer are a few shots of the gear, and some very early impressions. This is the first Fuji lens that actually feels large to me. The 18-135 and 55-200 felt slim, and even the 50-140 felt quite compact for the range and aperture it was covering. This feels quite substantial. It carries a 77mm filter size, and weighs in at 655 grams (1.4 lbs).  It still holds a “mirrorless advantage” over similar range and aperture such at the Canon EF 24-70 2.8 at 805g (1.77 lbs) but it is actually heavier than some like the Canon EF 24-70 F4 IS which comes in at 600g (1.32lbs) AND includes image stabilization. In full frame equivalence the Fuji would be a 24-84mm F4.  (The math on the aperture is less accepted but I’m not here to argue that. Call it 2.8 if you want)…….
