Film versus Digital in Richmond Park 2: Leica M | Bede McCarthy

I’m back with part two of my comparison between Fuji Velvia film and the Leica M. This second set of shots were taken directly after the last post, and some the following day when I went back with my girlfriend who had missed out the first time due to work. By the time I’d finished the Velvia, the sun was higher in the sky (well, as high as it gets this time of year) and the wintry stillness was giving way to the sounds of dog walkers and parents with bored children, so I headed into the woods where I once again found solitude and eery calm. It wasn’t long before I found a new vein of photos to mine – this pond with its armour of algae and a bearded face adorning an old tree were two of the subjects I stalked from every angle. I did find that with a digital camera in my hand I immediately started checking the screen and iterating on pictures rather than thinking them through upfront and making sure I got it right first time. I also started obsessing about sharpness and whether I had focused the rangefinder right, which would never happen with the M6 because often by the time I get the film back I can’t remember what I chose to focus on……
