Poppi, Italy. 2013. | Rebecca Lily

We just arrived home from our trip a few days ago, and are getting settled back in to our routine and everyday life. After a month of exploring Italy and seeing some of the most beautiful places on earth (Lake Como and Val D’Orcia), I found it difficult to return to Ireland. I felt very connected to Italy and thrived on the Mediterranean diet, the abundant sunshine and beautiful weather, and the live-and-let-live mentality there. For me, funny as it might sound, it felt like leaving home not coming back to it. But I know I am part gypsy and probably not very normal with that. I shot mostly film on our trip, all medium format on my Contax 645. It’s currently on its way to Richard Photo Lab in California for developing. I’m so excited to see our results in a couple of weeks and to be able to relive the wonderful memories Johnny and I made over this month of travel together. In the meantime, I wanted to share a few digital images I took with my Fuji X-E1. I went out twice with the Fuji, once to Poppi and once to Montepulciano. It’s a great little travel camera: compact, lightweight, and unobtrusive (a nice counterbalance for the Contax!). And I love the colors it produces. I’m really happy I brought it to shoot along with film……
