Toronto beach model shoot with Fujifilm X-T1 & SLR Magic
35mm T0.95 lens | Don Kittle
Yesterday I got an SLR Magic Hyperprime 35mm T0.95 lens from Adorama. I love shallow depth of field and, more and more, I’m finding I’m willing to prioritize that over other features that a lens may offer (like sharpness or distortion). I had a model shoot booked for the evening already (coincidently) and I was keen to bring my Fuji X-T1 camera along to try out the lens. Little did I know how challenging the conditions would be. The Hyperprime 35mm T0.95 is called a hyperprime because it’s the fastest SLR Magic lens at this focal length. I think they also make an f1.7 lens and a T1.4 lens in this focal length. Why t0.95 instead of f0.95? T is a measure of how much light actually passes through the lens. I believe cinema (or cine) lenses are measured and sold this way as lighting levels tend to be more exacting in cinema. Still camera lenses tend to be described in f values which is a ratio of focal length to maximum aperture diameter. F values are close to T values but are usually higher (darker). A zoom that is advertised at f2.8 might only let in light at t3.2. This makes the 35mm hyperprime really bright…………
